Many of you who were regular readers surely noticed the radio silence on As a Linguist in the past six months. Some who follow me at A Modern Day Dinosaur know that part of the reason for the silence was the Project 365 challenge I gave to myself. For those who don’t know, Project 365 is a commitment to post (at least) one picture a day for an entire year. I started on the 1st of January, 2013 and finished on the 31st of December. If you haven’t seen it already and are interested, you can find the posts here.
But it was more than just photography that kept me from more extensive writing. I’m also trying to orchestrate a career change, and that has been eating up mental and emotional resources that I previously had devoted to this blog. I haven’t stopped this process and am in fact going to be busy with classes and an internship this semester, but I also have missed writing too much. I felt the absence of that spark, that rush that writing gives me.
The writing I like to do for this blog tends to require time and research, so I can’t say that I will be posting the 2-3 times a week that I had been maintaining a while back; I simply won’t have the time. But I will certainly be going for more consistency than once every six months.
In the meantime, I thought it was time for a face lift. For the blog, of course! Though I am a creature of habit and enjoyed the theme I originally chose for As a Linguist, I felt that it was time for yet another change, so welcome to the new theme!
Good luck with your busy future. It’s great to have you back ‘as a linguist’, and I hope this career change will indeed allow you the time to post from time to time
Thanks, Margaret :) I hope it does too, since part of the reason for this particular choice of job was to give me more time to write. Imagine, no more homework! ;)
:)
Love the new look and happy to see you posting! Looking forward to more in the future.
Leonore! Glad you like the new look. I like yours, too. Was it a little bit nerve-wracking for you, too? Hope school is going well. When I’m sitting in class and put on reading glasses, I often think of you and the post you wrote when you first went back to school :)
It was really nerve-wracking to change my theme this time around! Mainly because all my widgets disappeared and I panicked trying to put it back together again. Sigh. But I figured new year, new theme, why not?
School is crazy busy (as usual) 16 credits this semester. Sigh. I just keep counting the days until graduation in May and the helps.
Oh wow, you’re really close! How great! What will you do next?
I’ve got 9 credits this semester, which is a lot considering I’m also teaching two classes. I actually just got an email saying that the first day of one of the classes is cancelled, and I haven’t yet heard about my internship placement. So I’m sure I’ll be crazy busy at some point, but it all sure is taking its sweet time getting started :) (Not that I’m complaining…) I’ll have one more class that I will take in June and then I will be done too.
Yeah!! May and June can’t come fast enough for us. After graduation, I start my externship, I have to put in 240 hours at a doctor’s office this summer. THEN I can start looking for a paying job this fall. Sigh.
Aaaah! So good to see you back! I am on phone-based internet at the moment, but I’m looking forward to checking out the pics when our internet is back up here.
Thank you, Deborah! I may not have been writing here, but I’ve been lurking about and want to say congrats on your nuptials and also on the next wee babe for you and D :)
Hi!
Really missed you.
Hope you’ll find time in the new year to update the blog…
Thank you :) I won’t just find time – I’ll make time!
From one word nerd to another, welcome back!
Thanks, Geraldine! Word nerds need to stick together :)
It’s good to see you! It sounds like you’ve been really busy! I’m following you now on my new blog so I can keep up with you! What’s your internship in? I look forward to reading more about what’s going on in your life! :)
I’m doing a paralegal certificate and my internship is in the district attorney’s office. Loving it so far and really hope I can turn this into a job somehow.
Zelda and Mrs.Parker say “Meow!” :)
Aw! I’m so glad they’re doing well! I still have my gigantic Sophie, but Pixie passed away in October from stomach cancer. It was really hard to say goodbye to her, but it was for the best. My daughter’s kitty, Porchy is staying with us now and he and Sophie have become buddies.
Your certificate and internship sound wonderful. I sure hope you can turn it into a career!
It’s great to hear from you! :) Have a wonderful weekend!
Heeloo. Just stumbled over your blogs. Are all 3 – Linguist, Moonlighting, Dinosaur – still current and valid if I want to continue reading and following you? Thank you!
Hello!
I haven’t updated Moonlighting in a very long time since I moved the photography content to Modern Dinosaur. I just haven’t gotten around to deleting the site yet. As for the others, this year has been incredibly busy and I had high hopes of being able to post, if not frequently, then at least regularly, but it proved to be too much.
The good news is that the very busy time of the year is over – as of last week, in fact! – and I plan to start writing again soon. I’m still taking plenty of photos, so there is definitely material for Dinosaur, and Linguist is near and dear to my heart, so I’ve always got ideas bouncing around my head.
In short, Moonlighting is probably going to be deleted soon, but the other two still have life in them yet.
Hi, I stumbled across your blog completely by accident and loved it! Your ideas are great and it’s great to meet another word lover – no one else I know can understand why I love language so much! I started my own blog yesterday and I was wondering if you could by any chance read my first post and give me some feedback on it? I know you’ve been very busy this year, so don’t worry if you have no time, but I would really appreciate it if you could take a look and tell me what you think.

Thank you and please keep writing whenever you can!
