I’m going to cheat today. Monday’s 1,700 word post left me a little worn out, kind of like Harry Potter after conjuring a Patronus.
Yes, I admit it. I read all the books. But I got the British “adult” versions. Oh, now get your minds out of the gutter! It just means that the covers were less cartoonish, making it easier to pretend that we’re not reading a kids’ book. I liked the books and I’m vain, what can I say?
As a bonus, I finally found that Tom Petty CD I thought I'd lost.
To take a break from research and course planning, and to finally finish the Great Summer Book Reorganization, I bought paint, moved furniture into the middle of the room, and dusted off my old CD player, because painting seems to go hand in hand with the local classic rock station, static and all.

As per my usual post-semester routine, I entered final grades on Saturday, spent Sunday feeling the vague apprehension and restlessness that comes when I’m not yet convinced that I don’t have to teach on Monday, and then I crashed hard on Monday. The cats were excited to have me sitting still for so long and took turns napping all curled up behind my knees. I feel I am now an expert on procedural crime dramas and advanced channel surfing.

I hope Epitaph Records will forgive me for stealing and slightly altering the title of their 1998-2005 compilation of punk songs. My punishment should be to have an annoying song stuck in my head all day long. Instead, I’ll probably wimp out and listen to The Hives.
By Monday evening, I will be finished with instruction for the Spring semester. Perhaps when you are reading this, I will already be dancing on the table sedately celebrating the end of lesson planning for another term. I will still be grading papers and tests and figuring final course grades over the next week and a half, however, and by the end of it all, there will be no doubt about it. There will be dancing. On the table. With no photographic evidence of such.
